Living in NYC, you are surrounded by fashion—it’s virtually impossible to not get caught in the eye of the storm. At 6’5″, keeping up with trends is difficult—let alone finding quality staples to build into your wardrobe. Nonetheless I always accept the challenge!
Enter American Tall, a new brand catering to the taller, slimmer individual. Even before I actually tried my clothes on, I was impressed with the sturdy packaging waiting for me at my door. Nothing was going to get into my package! Not even my two 50lb bulldogs!
I received my Oskar Dress Shirt in Grey Diamond Dobby and the J1 dark rinse jeans and instantly picked up the difference from other so called “big and tall” products I’ve purchased before. The Oskar was sized “medium tall” and was truly that. It had a trimmer fit as compared to the boxier fit of most retail brands. The shirt was cut close to the body for a more modern fit. The waist was also tapered and contoured my torso. Perfect for my slim build.
When I tried on the J1 dark rinse jeans, they instantly hit right below my ankle leaving a little break above my low cut shoes. Do you hear the angels singing? It was like American Tall saw me and said “Let’s make jeans for that guy!”
As any red blooded American would do with a brand spanking new pair of great fitting jeans…I hit the town! I don’t know if it was my jeans or just the fact that I felt really comfortable and confident, but the compliments kept coming. Who was I to stop ‘em?! (FYI: I wore the jeans the very next day too).
What was very surprising was the give the jeans had. I could bend and sit without my pant hem rising up my calves. Tall guys, you know what that feels like—it’s the moment you realize you feel a draft on your shin, because your pants have risen above the top of your socks (sadface). The J1s were great because there was enough stretch at the knee to let the lower pant leg rest normally and not hike. On top of it all, that they were really comfortable and soft.
American Tall shot and scored, because these were two clutch free throws to add to my game!
